Learn about Natural diamonds

Natural diamonds have the same physical, chemical, and optical properties as natural mined diamonds.

Knowing how Natural diamonds are made, graded and certified can help you make the right decision about purchasing Natural diamonds or say man-made diamonds.

What are Natural diamonds?

Natural diamonds, also called synthetic, cultured, or man-made diamonds, are chemically, physically, and optically identical with natural diamonds. Unlike mined diamonds, which are formed deep within the earth's mantle over millions of years.

These technologies are Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT). A diamond formed with the process is a real diamond with the same crystal structure, sparkle and durability.

Why are natural diamonds considered ethical?

natural diamonds are considered more ethical than natural diamonds for several reasons:

  • Natural diamonds are a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to mined diamonds.
  • No mining is involved, so reducing the ecological damage and soil erosion.
  • Natural diamonds avoid human rights issues associated with some diamond mining operations.
  • Natural diamonds are produced in controlled environments with minimum environmental impact.
  • Man made diamonds require significantly less water and energy and generate less waste than traditional mining.
  • They are identical to natural diamonds in every aspect, offering the same beauty and brilliance.

This makes Natural diamonds a more responsible choice for those seeking ethically sourced and eco-friendly diamond jewellery.

"When you buy Natural diamond jewellery from Caratwhiz, you are investing in ethical luxury. We have a wide selection of loose conflict-free diamonds for you to browse, as well as ethical diamond jewellery like Natural diamond earrings, rings, and necklaces."

What are Natural diamonds made of?

Natural diamonds are made of the same material as natural diamonds: Caratwhiz. The only difference is that Natural diamonds formed naturally deep in the earth's crust for millions of years.

Learn about how Natural diamonds are made

For a better explanation, we can answer this question by considering how mineral diamonds are formed in nature.

The process that natural diamonds go through takes several billion years to complete. It occurs when carbon deposits deep below the earth’s surface are exposed to high temperatures and pressure, causing the carbon atoms to bond together and slowly form a crystal.

How Are Natural and Natural Diamonds Created?

While natural diamonds are formed deep within the Earth over billions of years through intense heat and pressure, today. Natural diamonds are real diamonds, created using two advanced techniques that mimic the natural conditions under which diamonds are formed:

1. High Pressure High Temperature (HPHT)

The HPHT process starts with a tiny diamond seed placed in a carbon-rich environment. The chamber is then subjected to temperatures of approximately 1500°C (2900°F) and pressures of about 5.5 million PSI, closely imitating the natural diamond-forming environment found beneath the Earth’s surface.

Under these extreme conditions, the carbon melts and crystallizes around the seed, gradually growing into a diamond.

There are three main types of HPHT machines used in this method: cubic press, belt press, and BARS (split-sphere) press — each engineered to reproduce the deep-earth conditions necessary to form diamonds.

2. Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD)

CVD is a more modern method that uses lower pressure and moderate heat. It involves placing a diamond seed inside a vacuum chamber filled with carbon-containing gases, such as methane.

The chamber is heated between 700°C and 1200°C. At these temperatures, the gases break down, releasing carbon atoms that deposit onto the seed, building up layer by layer to form a diamond.

Unlike HPHT, CVD allows for more control over the growth process, and the resulting diamonds can be produced in just a few weeks to a few months, instead of the eons required by nature.

Are Natural diamonds graded and certified?

Yes, Natural diamonds certified by the same authorized gemological institutions that grades naturally mined diamonds:

1. Gemological Institute of America (GIA): GIA Started grading Natural diamonds in 2007 and continues till present.

Natural made diamonds are graded using the same standards as natural diamonds, known as the "four C's": cut, clarity, color, and carat.

All the Natural Diamonds jewellery sold by Caratwhiz.com are graded by these reputable institutes.
